And to think, it all started with one man's dream and a fair that brought the world to Chicago, Illinois. The man was F.W. Rueckheim, the year 1893, and the fair was the World's Columbian Exposition. Mr. Rueckheim mixed up and sold a new recipe of popcorn, peanuts and molasses and found he had a product people from all over the world couldn't get enough of. He called it "CRACKER JACK"
and adopted a slogan spoken by a satisfied customer-"The more you eat, the more you want." The unique flavor was launcehd and hungrily accepted. The fun part of "CRACKER JACK'S"
magic formula was added on day in 1912 when Mr. Rueckheim acted on the brilliant idea of packaging a prize in every box. Children eagerly ate up the delicious snack while searching for their treasure. Since that day over 17 billion toys have been given out. Today "CRACKER JACK"
is one of the world's largest users of toys. Under all of this it says; THIS IS NOT A TOY. Not recommended for children under eight years of age. A BRIEF HISTORY OF "CRACKER JACK" In 1871 German immigrant F.W. Rueckheim started selling popcorn with a partner at a street stand in Chicago shortly after the Great Fire. By the next year they established their business to manufacture "Popocorn Specialities", and in 1873 Rueckheim's brother Louis became his new partner. The Rueckheims hit the jackpot at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 when they debuted a new confection made of popcorn, peanuts and molasses. Millions of fairgoers couldn't get enough of the taste. The name for today's beloved snack was coined in 1896, when a salesman munching on the treat excalimed, "That's a "CRACKER JACK!", which was Victorian slang for "That's great!". The name was further immortalized when lyricist Jack Norworth wrote the song "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" in 1908. Toys were added to the packaging in 1912. Some old "CRACKER JACK" prizes and now valued at over $7,000, and more than 17 billion toys have been given out in "CRACKER JACK" boxes. The now famous figure of "SAILOR JACK" was modeled after F.W. Rueckheim's grandson and his dog "BINGO" , both figures, representing the patriotic, all American flair of the red, white and blue boxes, have appeared on every "CRACKER JACK" box since 1918. The company was purchased by Borden, Inc. in 1964. Using a resipe virtually identical to F.W. Rueckheim's, Borden today pops nearly 20 tons of popcorn daily.
YOUR
PRIZE

Since 1912, when prizes were first included, more than 17 billion toys have been enclosed in
"CRACKER JACK" boxes. Many of these toys are now prized collector items. From the late 1910's to the early 1940's, some of the prizes were made of lead or "pot metal" as they are commonly known. These prizes covered a very wide assortment of objects, inlcuding household miniatures, transportation vehicles, charms, rings, tools, animals, spinning tops and more. At a time when toys for children weren't so pleantiful, "CRACKER JACK" prizes kept little hands busy and minds entertained for hours. They were, and still are, very treasured. Today many collectors actively seek all the many varieties of these mementos of the innocent past. Enclosed with your doll is a replica of one of these valued prizes. Although no longer made of metal, today's toy prizes are still designed with the same care and detail as the antiques. They are tested with children before being manufactured, and must meet strct safety guidelines. But most of all, like "CRACKER JACK" itself, the toys are fun! THE ENCLOSED PRIZE REPLICA IS NOT A TOY/NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER EIGHT YEARS OF AGE "CRACKER JACK" is a registered trademark of Borden Inc. How many of us, how many times as a child and growing up and as a teenaer had many of these toys in are hands, not realizing the value in years to come. I remember holding tons of
"CRACKER JACK'S" toys in my hands. I might have a couple of the whistles laying around. Oh well, I have an old Oscar Meyer Weiner Whistle.
